A Movement Founded by National Smart Home
I never meant Smart Home Day to be another industry holiday, marketing campaign or celebration of technology. I created it in 2018 through National Smart Home for a far more personal reason. November 3 is my grandfather’s birthday, and his home was the best place I knew growing up.
Most of us have that one place from childhood, whether it was a grandparent’s house, the home you grew up in or somewhere you spent your summers. It was where you felt safe, loved and free to be yourself, and where the outside world disappeared the moment you walked through the door. That feeling never left me, so much so that I eventually moved about 100 miles from Long Island to live near that place again, and eventually became the philosophy behind National Smart Home: Home Is the Escape.
Smart Home Day was never about celebrating manufacturers, products or industry achievements. It was about giving homeowners a voice, showing them what’s possible and connecting them with the professionals who can make their homes safer, more comfortable and more enjoyable, because technology should serve the people living in the home and not the other way around.
Since the first Smart Home Day on November 3, 2018, the day has grown well beyond National Smart Home, with a 10hr Facebook live including Audio Control, Barco, Control4, Crestron, Josh.AI, Origin Acoustics, Rayva, Savant and more. It also received coverage from CE Pro, TWICE, Security Sales & Integration and Technology Integrator, and today with participation from brands such as TP-Link, Vivint and Yale. I’ve always welcomed that growth, as long as it never loses sight of the homeowner.
